Artist's Comments

16x20 inches, oil on wood panel

Daily Deviation

Given 2007-10-23

With such fine medieval elements as the little vignettes inside the figure, reminiscent of Bosch and Brueghel, and the comet & eclipse end-of-the-world sky, Oriax by *Polasko is an apocalyptic piece loaded with well chosen symbolism. (Featured by `stigmatattoo)

You are not alone in your frustration...Sometimes it seems that I have 1000 ideas a second and I can't realize ANY of them. But one thing that helps me is to just start drawing for drawing's sake.
At first, I don't start out with any preconceived idea, I draw whatever I want, wherever I want, on the board or canvas; even if it doesn't 'make sense'. That way the drawing/painting dictates what is happening just as much as I do; I just sort of 'direct' it into being.
Of course that doesn't help if doing a realistic landscape! Which is why I paint mostly Fantasy images ;)

i agree, i'm more into tealistic type, need a ref. all the time. Actually, a few friends suggested to me (just to even try it) to do anything that's in my head... tried it but didn't like what i saw, so, garbage!!!

Aww...thank you! It was a departure for me to use color with such intensity. :)

+extraordinary, i can definitely see some H. Bosch-inspired elements there! everything works well with the spirit of the subject, i'm specially liking the "world's end" sky
beautiful work.+

Wow, there's so much detail in this, it does remindme of medieval depictions of Hell, so the colour scheme is confusing in a really good way! I love the way the stars seem to be falling out of the sky.

it's been like 6 or 7 years since I read that book, and that was only because I was writing it.

incredible. The tequnique is good and the colors are very nicely blended.

The theme is, i guess, as such that everybody could take somthing different from it based on nature and experiance.

Personaly, I see the celestial side, Orians' Belt constelation in conrtuction. Or maybe the cultivation of an Angel's invisible statue of god.

It really is beautiful; thanks for presenting such a piece.
